Pio Emanuelli

Pio Emanuelli (born November 3, 1888 in Rome , † July 2, 1946 in Rome) was an Italian astronomer , historian and popular scientist.

From 1910 he worked at the Vatican Observatory ( IAU Code 036) in Castel Gandolfo , where the director at the time, the Jesuit Father Johann Georg Hagen , had called him. He has written numerous scientific works with an emphasis on the history of astronomy and popular science treatises. He then completed his habilitation in astronomy at La Sapienza University in Rome, where he became professor for the history of astronomy from 1938 .

His popular scientific work includes numerous articles on astronomical topics that appeared in the "Dal taccuino astronomico di Pio Emanuelli" section of the monthly Coelum Astronomia . From 1930 he wrote further astronomical articles for the popular science column of the Corriere della Sera .

The asteroid (11145) Emanuelli was named after him in 1997.
