Piotr Fąfrowicz

Piotr Fąfrowicz (born January 28, 1958 in Białystok ) is a Polish painter and well-known illustrator of children's books. He is co-founder of the book publisher Wydawnictwo Fro9 .

Life

Fąfrowicz grew up in Szczecin and studied art history at the Catholic University of Lublin , from which he graduated with honors in 1982. He also trained at the Warsaw School of Animated Film . During his studies he began to paint, first with oil on canvas and later with tempera on paper. His pictures are often created and played in Kazimierz Dolny . In addition to painting, he also illustrates children's books.

Fąfrowicz has received national and international awards for his work - his book illustrations in particular have received numerous awards. Among other things, he won a second prize and an honorary award at the International Biennale for Illustration in Aki in Japan in 2001 . In 2003, the illustrated by him children's book "Leon and the cat, or how to understand the language of the watch" (Polish: "Leon i kotka, czyli jak rozumieć Mowe zegara") the author Grazyna Ruszewska the Most Beautiful Book of the Year 2003 on at the 49th International Book Fair (PTWK) in Warsaw. Another book he illustrated was also awarded a prize at this fair in 2005. In 2005, one of the works he illustrated was placed on the price list of the same name at the White Raven Festival of the International Youth Library in Munich . In 2008 in Copenhagen his book “Big Changes in a Big Forest” (Polish: “Wielkie zmiany w dużym lesie”) was included in the IBBY 's “Honor List”, which is drawn up every two years .
