Pirjo Hassinen

Pirjo Annikki Hassinen (* 14. November 1957 in Kuopio , Finland as Pirjo Annikki Kinnunen ) is a Finnish writer . She publishes her historical love novels under the pseudonym Birgitta Hurme .

Life

Pirjo Hassinen studied political science and philosophy at Jyväskylä University from 1977 . She made her debut as a writer in 1991 with the novel Joel , a story about a man who discovers his own body through the eyes of a woman. Since then, other novels have followed, which have been well received by both audiences and critics. Her works have been translated into several languages, including Latvian, Norwegian, Turkish, Czech and German. Jouluvaimo and Kuninkaanpuisto , her seventh and eighth novels, were each published by the Munich publishing house btb after a translation by Meike Frese .

Hassinen has also been nominated for a number of literary awards. Her works Voimanaiset , Jouluvaimo , Kuninkaanpuisto and Popula were each recognized with a nomination for the renowned Finlandia Prize . For Mansikoista marraskuussa she received a nomination for the prestigious Scandinavian Literature Prize of the Nordic Council in 2003 . Two years earlier she was able to receive the thank you for the book medal . She was awarded the Savonia Prize in 1995 and 2013 and the State Prize for Literature in 2001.

She currently lives in Jyväskylä with her husband, Pekka Hassinen .
