Pitsligo Castle is the ruin of a low castle about 800 meters east of the settlement of Rosehearty in the Scottish county of Aberdeenshire . W. Douglas Simpson described the castle as one of the "Nine Castles of the Knuckle", a name that refers to the rocky headland in the northeast of the county.
The origin was a donjon from the 15th century. In the western wall of the outer courtyard is an archway with the year 1656 and the coats of arms of the Forbes and Erskine clans . The year 1663 can be read in the inner courtyard. There is a high round tower at the northeast corner of the courtyard. The main tower had three floors with vaulted ceilings , all of which have disappeared except for the lowest floor. In the northeast corner there is a better preserved stair tower. There are signs with the year 1577 above the entrance to the courtyard.
Historic Scotland has listed Pitsligo Castle as a Scheduled Monument .
