Pjaosero ( Russian Пяозеро , Finnish Pääjärvi ) is a 659 km² lake in the Republic of Karelia in northwestern Russia .
There are a number of islands in the lake. Their land area adds up to 186 km². The lake is at an altitude of 101 m.
The southern lake Toposero feeds the Pjaosero with its outflow. Another important tributary is the Olanga . This forms the outflow of Lake Paanajärvi to the west . With its source river, Oulankajoki , the river also drains areas beyond the Russian- Finnish border.
