Oulankajoki in Oulanka National Park |
The river Oulankajoki ( Russian Оуланкайоки, Оланка , transcription: Olanka ) flows in a west-east direction through the low mountain range of the Kuusamo region in the Finnish landscape of Northern Ostrobothnia a little south of the Arctic Circle . The river has its origin in the moor areas near Salla . Later it flows through lakes and meandering rivers. In the Oulanka National Park , the river breaks through canyon-like rock openings. Coming from the south, the Kitkajoki meets the Oulankajoki. After crossing to Russia, the Kuusinkijoki meets the Oulankajoki from the south before it flows into Lake Paanajärvi . As Olanka , the river continues its course from the eastern end of the lake to Pjaosero .
leisure
The Oulankajoki is a popular river for canoe trips lasting several days . Commercial rafting takes place in the upper reaches .
