The Toposero ( Russian Топо́зеро , Finnish Tuoppajärvi ) is a 986 km² lake in Louchi Rajon in the Republic of Karelia in northwestern Russia .
There are 144 islands in the lake with a total area of 63 km², mainly on the southwestern shore. The lake has a very winding bank course with many bays. The shore area of the lake is flat and stony. The lake is located in a landscape of coniferous and mixed forests. The lake is frozen from late November to late May.
The Toposero is connected to the Pongoma River by a canal, which flows into the White Sea . At the northwest end of the lake, the river Kowda (also Sofjanga , Софьянга ) drains the Toposero to the nearby lake Pjaosero . Since the commissioning of the Kumsk hydropower plant in 1966 and the damming of the upstream waters, the Toposero has been part of the associated reservoir system.
In addition, the Toposero is connected by a canal to the Pongoma River , which flows southeast to the White Sea.
The following fish are u. a. Caught in the toposero: whitefish , coregonus , grayling and smelt . The lake is also used for canoe tours . The lake is used for rafting .
