Pyotr Ivanovich Ivashutin
Peter Ivanovich Iwaschutin ( Russian Пётр Иванович Ивашутин ; born September 5 . Jul / 18th September 1909 greg. In Brest-Litovsk , Russian Empire ; † 4. June 2002 in Moscow , Russia ) was a general of the Soviet Armed Forces .
Between November 1947 and November 1949, the Lieutenant General was the chairman of the Central Counter-Espionage Administration SMERSh of the People's Commissariat for Defense of the USSR in the Group of Soviet Armed Forces in Germany . Ivashutin was first deputy chairman of the KGB between 1954 and 1963 and during this period from 5 to 13 November 1961 acting chairman of the KGB. Then the general was head of the GRU until 1985 and at the same time he was also deputy chief of staff of the Soviet armed forces.
