Count Pyotr Saltykov ( Russian Пётр Семёнович Салтыков , scientific. Transliteration Pëtr Semenovic Saltykov ; born December 11 . Jul / 21 December 1698 greg. , According to other sources in 1697 or 1700 in Kogajewo ; † December 26, 1772 jul. / 6th January 1773 greg. In Marfino ) was a Russian field marshal .

Life

Saltykov was sent to France by Peter I in 1714 to study naval science . In 1729 he bought the Marfino estate. In 1731 he married the princess Praskowja Jurjewna Trubezkaja (1704-1767), sister of the general procurator Nikita Jurjewitsch Trubezkoi .

Under Anna Ivanovna's government , Saltykov became major general . In 1733 he and his father received the title of count. In 1734 he was involved in the War of the Polish Succession and in 1742 in the Russo-Swedish War (1741–1743) .

In the Seven Years' War he had been in command of the Russian army since 1759 . On July 23, 1759 he defeated the Prussian General Wedel in the battle of Kay and on August 12 , after he had united his troops with those of the Austrian General Laudon , in the battle of Kunersdorf King Friedrich II himself. For this, with the rank of field marshal rewarded, he later became Governor General of Moscow (1764–1771).
