The Plátano de Portalegre (also Plátano do Rossio ) is a tree in the Portuguese city of Portalegre .

The plane tree ( Platanus orientalis , oriental plane tree ) was planted in 1838 by the botanist and doctor José Maria Grande (1799-1857) born in Portalegre .

It is 26.50 meters high, has a circumference of 6.85 meters and its treetop measures 33.50 meters. This makes it the largest treetop on the Iberian Peninsula .

The plane tree is in a small park that was redesigned in the 1960s by the landscape architect Albano Castelo Branco . The tree, which was already under protection in 1939 , and the park are now listed as a unit.
