Placidus Amon
Placidus Amon (born Franz Amon; * December 10, 1700 in Waldhausen im Strudengau ; † January 16, 1759 in Traiskirchen ) was an Austrian Benedictine and philologist ( Germanist ).
Franz Amon took his religious vows in Melk Abbey in 1719 and took the name Placidus. He was ordained a priest in 1726 .
He dealt with lexicography and planned an extensive dictionary of the German language. There are correspondence with Gottsched and Wachter . Amon's interest was particularly in Middle High German literature.
