Plamort
The Plamort plateau is a raised bog in the border area between Austria and Italy, east of the Reschenpass . The Plamortboden was part of the Alpine Wall in South Tyrol during the Second World War and was intended to protect fascist Italy from a potential invasion of the then Nazi Greater German Reich between 1938 and 1943 .
history
Because of its strategically important position, the Plamort plateau was on the border between Austria and Italyof great importance especially for Italy during the Second World War. The construction of a fortification began in 1938 and was almost completely completed in the same year. The possible transition to Italy was secured with a large main bunker, which was equipped with anti-tank cannons and a few smaller side bunkers with machine gun stands and crew rooms. In the center of the facility there is an approx. 500 meter long anti-tank barrier that extends over almost the entire level. This was built with larch wood piles that are between half a meter and one meter high and embedded in a concrete foundation. In addition, the piles were encased in concrete and a metal point was attached. The entire anti-tank barrier was secured with barbed wire and a moat. In 1942, plans for a further expansion were collected, but these were never carried out due to ongoing protests from the allied German Reich .
When the German Wehrmacht marched into Italy from Austria in 1943, the system was completely functional, but it was handed over without a fight.
The border barrier was maintained and maintained until 1962, but then fell into oblivion. It was not until 2001 that the facility was completely orphaned and renewed. The facility has been revitalized since 2003 and can also be viewed.
The military establishment has been around for several years under monument protection .
