Reschensee and Reschen am See

Reschen am See ( Italian Resia ) is a village in South Tyrol and one of the four fractions of the municipality of Graun in Vinschgau . The place is at just over 1500 m above sea level in the Vinschgau or Vinschger Oberland , the highest section of the Adige Valley , near the Italian-Austrian border . Immediately north of the village is the summit of the Reschen Pass , where the Adige , the second longest river in Italy, has its source. The Reschensee extends directly to the south .

Tourism plays a major role for the village with 900 inhabitants. The second economic mainstay of Resia is agriculture and almost exclusively cattle and dairy farming. As a result, the landscape around Lake Reschensee and in Rojental is characterized by lush meadows.

The Schöneben ski area belonging to Reschen is of particular tourist and economic importance for the region.

history

The last bear in South Tyrol was shot in Reschen in the 19th century until the bear named JJ1 roamed through South Tyrol in 2005 . Today the villagers are still called Reschens Bärenschießer .

After the First World War , today's South Tyrol was annexed by Italy. With the entry into force of the Treaty of Saint-Germain in 1920, Reschen became a border town on the newly drawn Italian-Austrian border . Around Reschen there are numerous bunkers of the Vallo Alpino from the time of fascism . The dimensions of the underground facilities, for example on Plamort above Reschen, are fascinating . The area around the bunkers used to be a restricted military area. Today you can discover numerous artificial rocks outside the village that can be opened and behind which large loopholes are hidden.

Sports

The Reschensee Run takes place every year in summer. With a number of around 3000 runners, the Reschensee Run is one of the major running events in South Tyrol. The 15.3 km long route leads through forests, meadows and around the Reschensee, in which the church tower of Alt-Graun is located.

In winter, the focus is on winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing). The Schöneben ski area has already received several international awards for good slope maintenance. The lifts are modern and the slopes varied. Resia is less suitable for party-goers. At the local SC Reschen, talented skiers are repeatedly trained professionally and develop into squad drivers.

The International German Snowkite Championships have been taking place on the frozen Lake Reschen since 2008 (see: Snowkiting ). Because the lake, in contrast to many German snowkite areas, offers a very high level of snow and wind security, the organizers decided to use it as a regular venue for the championships. In addition, due to its location in the border triangle of South Tyrol, Austria and Switzerland, it is also very easy to reach for active drivers from other Alpine countries. Since it is an open championship, not only German athletes but also athletes from Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe take part. While the competitions in 2008 were held directly at the famous church tower Höhe Graun, the events are now taking place at the northern end of the lake in Reschen.

Mountain tours can be undertaken in summer. The ascent of the Weißkugel must certainly be mentioned as one of the most difficult routes . The Klopaierspitze is not for the dizzy , where abysses await the climber. The tour to the Zehnerkopf is suitable for beginners . The starting point is the mountain station of the cable car of the Schöneben ski area. You can then hike from the summit over a ridge towards Elferspitze (highest mountain around Reschen) and finally back down to the Zwölferkopf . These three mountains got their name because from the hamlet of Rojen the sun can be seen over the respective summit at the right time.

You have a good view down from the Piz Lad . The starting point is the Reschner Alm. The panorama includes the Engadine, the Upper Venosta Valley and the surrounding mountains. However, hikes are also possible below the summit. The hike from Reschen via the Vallierteck chapel to the Rojental is recommended.
