Planetarion

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Planetarion is a browser game that went online in 2000 (produced by the 5th Season AS group). It is the first online game with thousands of simultaneously active players ( MMOG ) to be implemented on the basis of web technologies.

In its 23/2003 issue, c't wrote in an article about German-language multiplayer games based on browsers: "Planetarion, which has been around for a few years, can be regarded as the international forefather of the new German multiplayer entertainment."

Each player manages a planet that is located in a galaxy of 10 to 25 (different depending on the round) planets. Raw materials are obtained by mining so-called asteroids . Depending on sufficient research, different types of ships can be built with which asteroids from other planets can be conquered. Cooperation in the galaxy and in alliances plays a key role. Each galaxy has its own forum and elects a Galactic Commander (GC), who in turn appoints various ministers.

At its peak, Planetarion had more than 175,000 players (according to information from fan forums), but when free access was abolished and every player had to pay, the number of members decreased rapidly. At the moment, however, there is another free round running. Permanently free clones such as B. Planetia could not match the success of the past days.
