Senftenberg Planetarium

The Senftenberg Planetarium was inaugurated on September 10, 1966 as the first school planetarium in the Cottbus district .

The building

The Halle- Kanena planetarium was used as a template for the house . In Senftenberg , the entrance area has been changed slightly and a classroom has been added. The dome has a diameter of eight meters and is special because it has a design flaw. The horizon is about a meter too high. That is why the projection device stands on a raised base, which is not the case with the other planetariums such as Kanena, Herzberg (Elster) and others of the same construction. The projection room offers space for 45 people and can be expanded up to 60 places.

The projector

The projection device is from Carl Zeiss Jena and is a Zeiss small planetarium 1 (ZKP1). This version was produced from 1951. The projector shows approx. 6000 stars and has several planetary projectors that have to be set by hand on the ZKP1 and therefore require a higher degree of astronomical knowledge. The projector has the serial number 176.

From the opening of the planetarium in 1966 until the turn of 1989, it was under the district of Cottbus.
