The Planneralm is an Austrian ski area in the Rottenmanner and Wölzer Tauern in Styria . The ski area is between 1600  m and almost 2000  m , making it one of the highest in Styria. The Planneralm belongs to the municipality of Irdning-Donnersbachtal .

history

The first ski operation on the Planneralm dates back to 1908. This year the Plannerhütte was built by the Alpine Society Die Reichensteiner . Until 2012 the hut belongs to the Reichenstein section of the Austrian Alpine Club . The first ski lift was built in 1954, the second in 1966. The connection to the public electricity network was also made in 1966. A road to the Planneralm has been in existence since 1963, and bus services began in the same year. The Planneralm Alpenstraße was completely renovated and expanded in 2000.

In 1990 the Planneralm was awarded the Styrian piste seal of approval.

In February 2005, the Planneralm was cut off from the outside world for several days by an avalanche. The power lines and masts to the Planneralm were completely destroyed over a length of almost one kilometer. Helicopters of the Austrian Armed Forces had to be used to supply the Planneralm. Among other things, five emergency power generators , each weighing two tons, were transported by helicopters to the Planneralm in order to restore the power supply. Approx. 250 children from school ski courses as well as those suffering from the flu and those willing to leave were evacuated by air.

Winter sports

The Planneralm has runs with a total length of 11 km, of which 2 km are difficult, 4 km medium and 5 km easy. Due to the altitude and the favorable weather conditions, the slopes can be prepared with natural snow without artificial snowmaking .

summer

In summer, in addition to hiking and gastronomy, the Planneralm also offers 3D archery on an archery facility and an archery course with over 30 3D targets, including a life-size mammoth. In the mountain pine distillery, which was newly built in 2012, mountain pine oil is extracted from the branches . A popular hiking destination is the Plannersee, 40 minutes away from the Plannerhütte at around 1785  m . In addition, the Planneralm basin is framed by a number of easily climbed mountains, including the Schoberspitze 2126  m , the Karlspitze 2097  m and the Plannerseekarspitze 2072  m . An ascent of the Vorderen Gstemmerspitze 2136  m and the Mittleren Gstemmerspitze 2104  m , however, is more demanding.

Two Austrian long-distance hiking trails, the Zentralalpenweg 02 and the Salzsteigweg 09 , also lead over the Planneralm .

geology

Like most of the Wölzer Tauern, the Planneralm area is made up of mica schist . In the Planneralm area, these mica slates form their own type, the Planner type . In contrast to the other mica schists of the Wölzer Tauern, this fine-grained mica schist is characterized by a lower degree of metamorphosis . In these mica schists there are grenades several centimeters in size . In addition, these slates are repeatedly traversed by carbonate layers, in which there are green slates and Hornblende shale.
