Platanias ( Greek Πλατανιάς ( m. Sg. )) Is a village on the north coast of Crete. Platanias was recognized as an independent rural community in the province of Kissamos in 1925, and in 1997 it was merged with twelve other communities to form a new urban community, which was also called Platanias, but had its seat in the village of Gerani. Here it formed a parish. In 2011 the neighboring communities of Kolymvari , Mousouri and Voukolies were incorporated into the community of Platanias. Since then it has had the status of a locality (literally 'local community') and elects a local council.

The village lies on the route between Chania and Kissamos .
