Kolymvari ( Greek Κολυμβάρι ( n. Sg. )) Is a small town and a municipality of the municipality of Platanias on the island of Crete . Until 2010 Kolymvari was also an independent municipality with (2001) 5114 inhabitants, since 1997 after incorporation as a municipality (dimos). On January 1, 2011, this community was incorporated into Platanias, where it has since formed a parish.

Kolymvari has been home to the Orthodox Academy of Crete since October 1968 , where the long-prepared Holy and Great Synod of Orthodoxy took place from June 16 to 27, 2016 .

The oldest known olive tree in the world is in the district of Vouves. It is estimated at 4000 years, since the interior of the tree is missing for more precise determination , one assumes at least 2000 years.
