Plato (photographer)

Platon , real name: Platon Antoniou (* 1968 in London , England ) is an English photographer of Greek descent.

Life

Plato is the son of an Englishwoman and a Greek father. He grew up in Greece but studied in London at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art . His photographic portrait of Vladimir Putin was featured on the cover of Time Magazine in 2007 . It was awarded first prize in the World Press Photo Contest .

Plato was employed as a photographer for The New Yorker magazine in New York City in 2009 . In September of that year, during the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in New York , he photographed 130 of the heads of state and government from all over the world in his improvised studio in the UN building on the East River . Together with the political editor of the New Yorker , David Remnick , he published his photo book Platon - Portraits of Power in 2011 .
