Platform 25

The platform 25 was a protest movement against the austerity measures of the Styrian provincial government in 2011. It was developed by non-governmental organizations called and opposition parties to life and calls for the withdrawal of cuts in social spending, which were adopted by SPÖ, ÖVP and FPÖ.

At the beginning of March 2010, the Styrian Governor Franz Voves and his deputy Hermann Schützenhöfer announced the budget for Styria for 2011 and 2012. This provides for a spending reduction of 25 percent. Among other things, this is to be achieved through zero wage rounds for 8,500 civil servants, cuts in 700 public service positions and major cuts in the social sector.

Protests

The first platform 25 demonstration , attended by 10,000 people, took place on March 25, 2010. Among the protesters are the ÖGB , Die Grünen - Die Grüne Alternative , KPÖ . The speakers are Yvonne Seidler from the hazissa association and Gerhard Zückert from alpha nova. The next protest took place on April 26, 2011, one day before the decisive state parliament session - about 600 clubs demonstrated this time.
