Plazoleta de Las Bóvedas
The Plazoleta de Las Bóvedas is a square in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo .
It is located in Ciudad Vieja on Rambla 25 de Agosto de 1825 between Juan Carlos Gómez and Ituzaingó streets . On the square are the remains of the Montevidean defenses, the Las Bóvedas , the Casa de los Ximénez , the Casa Lecocq and the Hernandarias monument created by Antonio Peña . The basic idea for the construction of the square dates back to 1956 and was drawn up during the preparation of the Plan Director de Montevideo . A redesign took place in 1975 by the Dirección de Paseos Públicos of the Intendencia Municipal of Montevideo .
The square has been classified as the Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1975 .
