Plectranthus verticillatus ( Syn. Plectranthus nummularius (Briq.) , Swedish ivy , king moth or simply harp bush ) is a species of harp bushes ( Plectranthus ) in the mint family (Lamiaceae).

description

The plant has glossy green and rounded on the edge of leaves , which may have the sheet toward the interior of a purple color, which often also at stems finds and leaf undersides. The upright flower clusters are white, pale purple or pink and appear sporadically all year round, but tend to appear in spring and late autumn.

The name Swedish ivy is misleading: the plant is not a climbing plant and is not a close relative of the ivy (Hedera) .

distribution

The home of the Plectranthus verticillatus extends from southern Mozambique to southern Africa .

Use as an ornamental plant

Plectranthus verticillatus is a very robust plant that is mostly grown as a hanging houseplant , found in frost-free areas, but also as a ground cover in gardens or growing down from walls. The plant grows very quickly in bright locations and can also tolerate direct sunlight (in moderation).

Propagation by cuttings is comparatively easy and the susceptibility of the plant is very low; an infestation of spider mites but can occur in hard-hit plants.
