Plenty International

Plenty International is an environmental and human rights organization based in Summertown , Tennessee .

In 1974, The Farm , a community of like-minded people, started a program called Plenty. In the first ten years, Plenty built a clinic in Bangladesh , a bush clinic in Lesotho and a wind- powered lighting system in a Caribbean Indian school. They conducted disaster relief programs in the developing world and offered free first aid to the sick in the southern Bronx , went to sea with Greenpeace and donated the radiation measurement system for the Rainbow Warrior . Plenty helped the Native Americans get their first radio stations. In 1978, Plenty formed a team of scientists to solve environmental and human rights issues. The Natural Rights Center and Environmental Resource Center in Portland , Oregon , USA were established. There, the Ecovillage model was developed for Russia .

To date, Plenty has enabled more than 120 village communities of women from Chiapas , Mexico and Guatemala to achieve economic independence.

At The DeColores Fair Trade Center in Davis , California , USA, Plenty operates a store that sells products and artwork from many Plenty projects.

In 1980 Plenty International received the Right Livelihood Award .
