Plumbers Don't Wear Ties is an adult video game of the dating sim genre for the 3DO game console that was released on September 30, 1994. This game was the first video game for the game company Kirin Entertainment .

The game begins with a full motion video in which Jane explains the goal of the game. Then the game changes into a slideshow .

History and gameplay

The game is a multiple choice game in which the player must decide which direction the game can go on.

The story of the game tells of Jane, who lives in Los Angeles and is preparing for an interview with a large company. However, her father wants Jane to marry and bring him a couple of grandchildren. The plumber John is in a similar situation as his mother wants exactly the same thing as Jane's father.

On the way to the company she meets John and both of them can start a conversation and fall in love, or miss each other, depending on the player's decision. If both meet and talk to each other, Jane then goes to an interview and receives from company boss Thresher either a rejection, an acceptance or an immoral offer in which she has to undress. After all, it is up to the player to choose whether or not Jane responds to it. Should she flee, there are other options, including that John get involved with Thresher or that Jane receives another immoral offer of $ 5 million for a night with him. After all, it is up to the player to decide whether the two get together or not.

Characters

John portrayed by Edward J. Foster: John is a plumber who dreams of Jane before they meet for the first time. The plumber does not actually wear ties, but he has to wear them at his mother's request. He meets Jane and falls directly in love with her, but he also receives a sexual offer from Mr. Thresher, which the player may or may not accept.

Jane , played by Jeanne Basone : Jane is a spoiled daddy girl who is applying for a promising job. She also falls in love with John and, like him, receives several sexual offers from Mr. Thresher. She is Christian, virginal and is also considering becoming a nun . Mr. Thresher puts her in some weird chase situations.

Mr. Thresher , played by Paul Bokor: He's the boss of a big company and he's trying to get Jane and John to bed.

Narrator , played by Harry Armis and Thyra Metz: The male narrator is actually Jane's father, who presents himself to the player in several hats and is later attacked by Wilma. He eventually kills Wilma and continues the story.

John's mother , played by Violetta Gevorkian and voiced by Samantha Eggersoll: She is afraid that John is gay and does not care about girls. Later in the game, she accepts Mr. Thresher's offer and spends a night with him.

Reviews

The game received mostly negative reviews. Among other things, the game presentation was viewed negatively. NEXGAM reviewer Heiko describes it as the only laugh and trash pearl.

IGN called the game a symbol that licenses should not be given to anyone who wants to publish a game. What this means is that the license fee for a game title published on the 3DO was only $ 3 per CD.

Diego Antico also describes the game as a rarity with poor gameplay. Likewise, Andy Slaven writes in his book The Video Game Bible that the humorous results of the wrong options cannot save the game from being bad.

PC Gamer magazine gave the game a 3% rating because the first 30 seconds were funny. PC Format gave the game a 4% rating, the lowest rating for a video game in the magazine's history.
