Podcast Maker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Magix Podcast Maker is a program from Magix to create podcasts . All the necessary functions, from recording and editing to the actual upload, are combined under one user interface . The product is no longer in production.

user interface

The surface is divided into two parts:

  1. Below the menu bar there are two audio tracks that stretch across the full width. The tracks are flanked by a time display ruler, the units of which can be adjusted between samples, milliseconds, hours / min / sec or CD frames. To the left of the tracks, three buttons allow different view variants of the tracks. So z. For example, you can display only one track, choose between split and simple waveform views, or switch on an automation curve. The automation curve controls the volume of the voiceover function and can of course also be used as crossfade automation . A transport control can be found below the audio tracks.
  2. The lower part of the program interface is divided into three simple steps. Basically, the procedure for creating a podcast is linear here: import or record, edit, export.

Working method

import

The podcast maker imports the formats WAV , MP3 , MPEG , WMA , Ogg , AVI , M3U , CUE and vip . CD tracks can also be previewed, selected and imported via a track list dialog.

The direct "recording" opens a dialog with which the input signal can be checked and which offers extensive options for making source settings.

To edit

The already mentioned automation curve can be adjusted again for a complete track using a controller.

Three mastering effects - DeNoiser, Equalizer and Compressor  - ensure professional sound improvement, as these technologies have been adopted from professional high-end products such as Samplitude . The mastering settings can also be made automatically with the “1-Click” button. In addition, two VST effects can be switched on. Since there are countless effect plug-ins as freeware or donationware on the Internet , it is easy to give the podcast an individual sound aesthetic.

export

The finished audio material can either be burned to CD or exported as an audio file. .Wav, .mp3, .ogg or .wma can be selected as the export format.

A third possibility, which distinguishes Podcast Maker from other programs, is the possibility to upload the audio material directly to the Magix server via "Make Podcast".

particularities

After free registration, you have 128 MB of storage space and the podcast can be immediately integrated into a flash player on your own site. A potential visitor now has the opportunity to “subscribe” to the podcast.

Alternative products

In principle, most audio editing programs or DAWs can be used to create or edit an audio file like a podcast in order to publish it afterwards. In most cases, however, the functions for publishing and managing podcasts, which make work easier, have to be dispensed with. There are various alternatives on the market to the no longer produced Magix Podcast Maker such as B .:

  • Propaganda from Mixmeister for Microsoft Windows
  • GarageBand from Apple for Apple Mac from the iLife series, which is currently included with every Mac free of charge
  • Overcaster of Pleasant Software for Apple Mac especially for live broadcasts.
