history

The Bavarian noble family of the Counts of Poigen ( -Rebgau ) , so named afterwards , possibly a branch of the Counts of Burghausen , Schala and Plain from the Salzburggau area , settled and colonized this area around 1000 AD, which at that time was still largely was inhabited by Slavic population. 1076 a "rus Beuchriche" is mentioned, which is called "Grafschaft" in the 13th century. The Counts of Poigen also founded the Altenburg Monastery in 1144 . As a result, they also appear as counts and nobles of Poigen-Hohenberg and Rebgau. The family later either died out or became impoverished and thus resigned to the knighthood, because from 1175 to 1346 only “knights and squires” were called by Poigen.

Around 1260 the possessions fell to Margaretha , the wife of Ottokar of Bohemia . The area was succeeded by the manor of Horn .

The Poigen included:

  • Gebhard († 1144) ∞ Hildburg (founder of Altenburg)
    • Hermann
  • Ulrich, Almar and Wichard (around 1210: "Ulricus, Almarus and Wichardus de Pügen", witnesses in a foundation of Friedrich von Hohenberg, confirmation document from Duke Leopold)
  • Popo and Wipoto (around 1276: "de Peugen"; witnesses in an arbitration award by Stefan von Maissau)

Based on the County of Poigenreich, the region around Horn is still called Poigreich today.
