Poissonnière is an underground station on line 7 of the Paris Métro .

location

The metro station is located at the intersection of the Quartiers du Faubourg Montmartre and Rochechouart in the 9th arrondissement with the Quartiers de la Porte-Saint-Denis and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul in the 10th arrondissement of Paris . It lies lengthways under the Rue La Fayette at its intersection with the Rue du Faubourg Poissonière.

Surname

It is named after the Rue du Faubourg Poissonière. It is the northern continuation of the Rue Poissonière, which was originally called Rue des Poissonniers et des Poissonnières (English: Street of the fishmongers). This street was usually used to deliver fresh sea fish from the port cities on the English Channel to the former Halles de Paris wholesale market .

In its entirety, the route from the coast to Paris, following an old Roman road, was named Chemin de la Marée or Chemin des Poissonniers as early as 1307. The suburb (fr: faubourg) that arose from it in the north of Paris was given the name Faubourg Poissonière against this background.

history

The station started operating on November 5, 1910, when the section of Line 7 from Opéra to Porte de la Villette opened.

description

Under an elliptical vaulted ceiling with curved, white tiled walls, the station has side platforms on two parallel tracks. It has the original Parisian standard length of 75 m.

The three entrances are on both sides of the Rue La Fayette at the intersection (since 1988: Place du 8-Novembre-1942) with the Rue du Faubourg Poissonière. They are marked by masts introduced in the 1950s that have a yellow “M” in a double ring. The northern entrance is equipped with an escalator.

vehicles

Conventional five-car trains of the MF 77 series run on Line 7 . Between 1971 and 1979 trains of the MF 67 series ran there , before that of the Sprague-Thomson type .
