Pola Walter

Pola Walter (* before 1900 in Riga ; † around 1942 in the Warsaw Ghetto ) was an actress in the Yiddish theater .

Life

She was born as Pola Shreyder in Riga, where her parents ran a fashion shop, which they then moved to Vilnius . Walter first attended high school and later a Progymnasium, where she attracted attention in school theater performances. In 1913 she played in a Russian theater company. During the First World War , she joined the Vilna Troupe , which was founded in 1916, where she learned the Yiddish language and went on the troupe's European tour. In 1922 she played in Vienna , in 1923 in the Pavilion Theater in London and in 1924 she toured America. She stayed with the Vilnius Troupe until 1929 and then played in the comedy Papa in England and in Belgium that same year. Pola Walter died in the Warsaw ghetto. Pola Walter was married to Matisyahu Kovalsky .
