The Polar Bear Point (English for polar bear tip ) is an icy headland of the Antarctic Ross Island . On the east side of the Hut Point Peninsula it juts 1.9 km southeast of Castle Rock into the McMurdo Ice Shelf . 1.1 km north-northwest of the headland, which itself has no rocky outcrops, rises a jagged volcanic crater .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 2000. When viewed from the west, the headland in its entirety is reminiscent of the head, neck and torso of a polar bear, which was decisive for its name.
