Polish State Radio-Ecological Protected Area

The poles Malaysian State Radioecological reserve ( Belarusian Палескі дзяржаўны радыяцыйна-экалагічны запаведнік , Russian Полесский государственный радиационно-экологический заповедник ) is a nature reserve in the south of Belarus on the border with Ukraine in the historic region of Polesia .

After the Chernobyl nuclear disaster , a protected area was established in 1988 on the territory of what was then the Belarusian Socialist Soviet Republic (BSSR) adjacent to the Chernobyl exclusion zone established in what is now Ukrainian territory . Today the Sapowednik covers an area of ​​216,093 ha . It is administered from the city of Chojniki , which is itself heavily polluted .

About a third of radioactive cesium - fallouts (according to other estimates more) concerned the current Belarusian reserve, which can only be entered with special permission. In 2019, parts of the restricted area were opened to tourists. Many of the animal and plant species found here are on the red list.
