The local police authorities in Spain are called Policía Local or Policía Municipal . The hierarchically organized units are deployed in localities that have more than 5000 inhabitants. The Guardia Urbana in Barcelona is also worth mentioning with its appearance reminiscent of British police uniforms.

tasks

The Policía Local takes care of the simple matters of police work, such as the surveillance of public spaces and traffic police tasks on streets in built-up areas where the Policía Trafico is not responsible. In the areas in which national roads lead through built-up areas, the tasks are usually divided between Policía Local and Policía Trafico.

In addition, tasks such as securing events are one of the areas of responsibility of the Policía Local, mostly the officers of the Policía Local in smaller places only have the operational management due to a lack of emergency forces, while the actual deployment is carried out by forces of the Guardia Civil .
