The Pollmeier Massivholz GmbH & Co. KG is a provider of hardwood sawmills based in the Thuringian Creuzburg in Wartburgkreis .
history
In 1988, Pollmeier Leimholz GmbH was founded in Rietberg, North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1996 the first Pollmeier sawmill started production in Creuzburg . Four years later, the company acquired a stake in Hanses Sägewerkstechnik GmbH & Co. KG. In the same year, production began in another plant in Malchow (Mecklenburg) . In the following years, the Creuzburg location was further expanded. At the beginning of 2007, the new plant in Aschaffenburg started production. With the launch of the laminated veneer lumber BauBuche in 2014, Pollmeier is the first sawmill to produce laminated veneer lumber from hardwood. The existing sawmills cut over 800,000 cubic meters per year. The company exports over 80 percent of beech sawn timber and employs over 800 people.
Products
Pollmeier produces beech lumber in 17 different grades. The company also produces solid wood panels, which are mainly used in the furniture industry. BauBuche is a laminated veneer lumber made from regional beech wood. It consists of thin peeled veneers, which are glued parallel to the fibers or crosswise and processed into beams, panels, panels and floors. The high load-bearing capacity enables use in the structural area even with large spans. As a supplement to the existing product range, Pollmeier has also been offering laminated veneer lumber made from spruce since 2019.
sustainability
The wood used is obtained from the immediate vicinity from a radius of around 150 km. All Pollmeier products come 100% from sustainable forestry, are legally harvested and are state-controlled. In addition, Pollmeier has committed itself to continuously improving its energy efficiency. The electricity consumption per product produced is further reduced every year. The thermal energy required for offices, workshops and wood drying is completely derived from the energetic recovery of waste products such as B. won grinding dust.
Use for wood mobilization
Pollmeier is committed to the mobilization of wood and the maintenance of the forestry infrastructure. In order to compensate for a bottleneck in wood procurement, the "Private Forest Promotion Thuringia" project was launched on August 1, 2006. This pilot project is carried out in cooperation with Thuringia Forest in the form of a Public Private Partnership (PPP). The aim is to inform small and very small forest owners about the possibilities of sustainable management and to encourage them to use them regularly. This increases the volume of the felling.
Another point of interest is the maintenance of the state standardized forest administrations.
