Polymede (daughter of Autolykos)
Polymede ( Greek Πολυμήδη ) is a figure in Greek mythology .
She was the daughter of the famous thief Autolycus , a son of Hermes . From Aison she became the mother of the Argonaut leader Jason . When Aison's half-brother Pelias spread the wrong news that the Argonauts had failed, Polymede hanged himself and left her underage boy Promachos behind.
As is so often the case with legends, there are also confusing variations. The mother of Jason is also known under the names Polymele, Polypheme and Alkimede ; The latter, however, is considered the daughter of Phylakos and Klymene .
