Sori of the middle potted fern

The middle potted fern reaches heights of 20 to 40 cm. The rhizome bears 6 to 7 mm long, oval lanceolate chaff scales.

The feathers are pointed, the bay between the leaflets usually has no cartilage connection with the midrib. The lateral nerves of the lowest pinnate lobes are mostly bifurcated three to four times.

The sori are often oval. The sporangia have six to ten thick-walled annulus cells and two to five unthickened basal cells.

The species is hexaploid , it is allopolyploid from the tetraploid Polypodium vulgare and the diploid Polypodium cambricum . The chromosome number is 2n = 222.
