Lake Pomorie is a lagoon and is located near the eponymous lake in the 4th century BC. Founded town of Pomorie on the Pomorie Peninsula on the Black Sea in Bulgaria . It is part of the Burgas wetland and a nature reserve . The lake is part of the Burgasseen lake landscape .
The lakes are separated from the sea by a natural spit and an artificial dam. Only in the southern part is there a channel to the sea, through which the salt water inlet is regulated.
The lagoon is approx. 7 - 8.5 km², 6.7 km long, 1.8 - 2 km wide and up to 1.4 m deep. The salt content is on average 6 - 8%. Salt and mud are extracted in the lagoon.
Many endangered bird species overwinter in the lagoon , using the east north-south migration route for migratory birds , the Via Pontica . There are several bird watching spots in the nature reserve, which are freely accessible.
