The Burgas Lakes or lakes of Burgas ( Bulgarian езера Бургаски , Burgaski ezera) form a seascape of a total of 9,200 ha to Burgas in Bulgaria close to the Black Sea . It includes lakes Burgas , Mandra , Atanasov , Pomorie , the Poda nature reserve, and the Medowo and Poroj reservoirs . The lake landscape lies on the north-south bird migration route along the Via Pontica and forms an important protection and relaxation area. The Burgas, Atanasov and Pomorie lakes, as well as the nature reserve Poda are included in the Ramsar list . Other protected areas in the region are Usungeren , Tschengene Skele , Korijata and the mouth of the Isworska River .
In the area of the Burgasseen 317 bird species have been recorded, which corresponds to 70 percent of the bird life in Bulgaria. Of these, 83 species are on the red list in Bulgaria and over 170 species are of European importance. The world's smallest mammal, the Etruscan shrew, can be found in the Atanasov Lake Nature Reserve .
