Neil Anthony Banfield (born January 20, 1962 in Poplar , London ) is a former English football player and current coach .
life and career
As a player, Banfield had little success. He played three games at Crystal Palace and a year at Leyton Orient . He also had a layover in Australia when he was under contract with Adelaide City for three years. In 1997 he moved to Arsenal as a coach from Charlton Athletic and took over the youth team there. With the Junggunners he won two FA Youth Cups , the English U-17 championship in 2000 and the English U-19 championship in 2004. In 2004, Banfield took over the second team of Arsenal FC. Between 2004 and 2005 he also worked as an assistant coach for the Irish U-21 team .
