Pompilio Maria Pirrotti
Pompilio Maria Pirrotti (born September 29, 1710 in Montecalvo Irpino near Avellino , Italy , † July 15, 1766 in Campi Salentina , Italy) was an Italian priest and monk . He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church .
Life
Domenico, his birth name, joined the Piarists under the name Pompilius Maria of St. Nicholas and was ordained a priest . He worked as a gifted preacher and pastor. He is said to have possessed the gifts of miraculous healing and prophecy. He promoted the veneration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Italy and wrote a novena on it in 1765 . However, this brought him a lot of hostility and at times he was forbidden to preach and hear confession.
Pompilio was founded by Pope Leo XIII. Beatified in 1890 by Pope Pius XI. 1934 canonized . His feast day in the liturgy is July 15th .
