The Pont Pierre-Laporte is a suspension bridge in the Canadian province of Québec . The longest bridge of its kind in the country spans the Saint Lawrence River between the cities of Québec on the north and Lévis on the south. The six-lane autoroute 73 runs on it . The bridge is located around 200 meters west of the Pont de Québec .

The total length is 1,041 meters, the mean span 667.5 meters, the height of the pylons 116 meters. The field widths are 186.5 m - 667.5 m - 186.5 m. Their daily capacity is around 90,000 vehicles. The bridge was built between 1966 and 1970 by the Québec Provincial Roads Department in cooperation with the private company Parsons Transportation Group . Based on the neighboring Pont de Québec, it should originally have been named Nouveau Pont de Québec . Shortly before it opened on November 1, 1970, however, it was renamed in honor of Pierre Laporte , who was kidnapped and murdered by the Front de liberation du Québec during the October crisis .
