The Pont Saint-Hubert is a road bridge in Brittany , which leads the route départementale D366 over the Rance and the place Le Port Saint Hubert in the municipality Plouër-sur-Rance in the Département Côtes-d'Armor on the left bank with the place Le Port Saint-Jean connects in the commune of La Ville-ès-Nonais in the Ille-et-Vilaine department .

The suspension bridge has two lanes and walkways on both sides. The bridge is a total of 286 m long, its span is 173 m. The pylons are made of reinforced concrete. The carriageway girder of the main opening consists of steel longitudinal and transverse girders , which are stiffened by trusses outside the railing.

history

Postcard of the previous bridge

The first bridge was planned since 1901. Coordination between the two departments was difficult, so construction could not begin until 1925. The bridge had a length of 260 m and a span of 170 m. As is customary with the suspension bridges designed or influenced by Ferdinand Arnodin , it had a mixture of stay cables in the first thirds of the main opening and suspension cables, which were only connected to the deck girder in the middle third by hangers. The bridge was completed in 1928. Their use was subject to tolls until 1933 .

During the Second World War it was destroyed by Allied air raids in 1944.

The current bridge was built between 1957 and 1959. When the access through the narrow streets was no longer able to cope with the traffic, the route Nationale RN 176 was built to the north of the two places , which bridged the Rance with the Pont Chateaubriand , opened in 1991 .
