The bridge over the Rio Acre
2012 flood in Brasiléia

The Ponte Binacional Wilson Pinheiro (in Bolivia: Puente de la Amistad , Bridge of Friendship) is an international bridge that connects the city of Brasiléia in the Brazilian state of Acre with the city of Cobija in the Bolivian department of Pando . The bridge crosses the Rio Acre and was named after an environmentalist who was murdered in Brasiléia.

The construction of the 154 m long cable-stayed bridge , which cost around 1 million US dollars , was decided on August 11, 2004; the bridge was opened in 2006. No formalities are required when crossing the bridge; the soldiers stationed on site do not check the travelers' documents or the movement of goods. This is considerable, as the free trade zone "Zofra Cobija" exists on the Bolivian side of the border , in which the prices for u. a. Clothing, electronic devices and toys are far below those in Brazil. Therefore, many buyers come from the city of Rio Branco, about 230 km away .

In February 2012, the Rio Acre flooded, flooding 95% of Brasiléia's urban area and disrupting access to the bridge.
