Ponte Nova
Ponte Nova , officially Portuguese Município de Ponte Nova , is a city in the center of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais . As of July 1, 2018, the population was estimated at 59,605 inhabitants, who live in an area of around 471 km². Ponte Nova is 402 meters above sea level.
Ponte Nova is a few kilometers south of the Rio Doce . It has a road connection to Ouro Preto and the state capital Belo Horizonte .

The economy is based on agriculture, some industry and service industries. Ponte Nova produces meat, milk, sugar cane, fruits and vegetables.
The first farms were established in the region in 1755. In 1770 the place was recorded and was called São Sebastião da Ponte Nova between 1770 and 1832 . In 1862 it became the seat of the district administration. However, it only got city rights later.
