The Pony Lake ( English for Pony Lake ) is one of the many frozen small freshwater lakes on the Antarctic Ross Island . The lake is just north of Flagstaff Point on Cape Royds .
He was discovered and mapped by participants in the Nimrod expedition (1907-1909) under the direction of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton . It got its name because the ponies brought along on the expedition were temporarily kept here.
