Pop it

Pop it comes in different shapes like a unicorn head , an owl and the impostor from Among Us

Pop it (from English pop it as an invitation to “burst something”) is a toy made of silicone and containing hemispherical bulges that can easily be turned over with your hands. This produces a sound that is reminiscent of the bursting of bubbles in bubble wrap . It is intended to reduce stress and imitate the feeling of destruction of bubble wrap, whereby the Pop it can be used several times.

The silicone plates are usually colored in different colors and are often shaped into motifs. During production, silicone pieces are pressed into the desired shape in heated molds.

History and creation

In 1975, Theo Coster and his wife, Ora Coster, who introduced a variety of games, invented the prototype of Pop it, which was cut in the shape of a triangle . However, for a long time there was no buyer who wanted to manufacture this toy. In 2009 FoxMind bought the idea and started making the toy for the first time. In 2019 FoxMind and its business partner Buffalo Toys signed a contract with the US retail chain Target . This put the name Pop it! fixed and required the introduction of other similar games under the name Go PoP! The name Pop it! later became a generic term for all pimple games. As a result, the toy became known through social media , which resulted in numerous copycats. In 2021, Pop it gained great popularity through the web video platform TikTok and became a trend toy. In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated protective measures such as quarantine and lockdowns , Pop it, which you can play alone at home, became popular.

Playing styles and imitators

Usually Pop it can be played on its own, but there are other uses for the toy as well. So there is the possibility of playing a strategy game for two . Each player can press any number of pimples in a row one after the other. Whoever presses the last knob on the “playing field” has lost. Ice hemispheres can also be made by pouring water into the knobs and freezing it. Pralines can also be made in the knob shape. Due to the possible health risks that can be caused by silicone, this use is not recommended.

There are now various imitators of the original game. Knob panels can be found on cell phone cases or in the form of puzzles .

Simple dimple

Simple dimple

The Simple Dimple (from English simple dimple for "simple dimple ", also Simpl Dimpl ) is a subspecies of Pop it. The main difference is the size. Only a few knobs are integrated in the Simple Dimple, which are also framed in a hard plastic frame. In addition, the knobs are different in size than those on Pop it. Simple dimples can therefore be found as key rings.

Uses

Like other fidget toys, Pop its should have a regulating effect on the emotions of ADHD patients. But the toy should also be helpful in everyday life: like a hand flatterer , it should reduce stress, bring calm and eliminate boredom. Negative thoughts and fears should be able to be hidden, since the attention is drawn to the game.
