Port Askaig Hotel
The Port Askaig Hotel is located directly at the ferry terminal of Port Askaig on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . The buildings are located at the end of the A846 on Islay, directly opposite the Port Askaig jetty. First, on July 20, 1971, the Port Askaig Hotel was entered as part of an ensemble in Category B of the Scottish List of Monuments . In 2006 this monument ensemble was dissolved and it was recategorized as a single monument in category C.
The history of the hotel goes back to the 17th century when there was an inn on this site. This has now been integrated into the hotel, which is the oldest restaurant with a license to serve alcohol on Islay. The exact construction time of the building is not known. Historic Scotland estimates that it was built in the early 19th century. According to the hotel's own information, the majority of the buildings date from the 18th century.
