Coordinates: 32 ° 30 ′ S , 137 ° 46 ′ E The City of Port Augusta is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 1153 km² and has about 13,800 inhabitants (2016).
Port Augusta is located at the northern end of the Spencer Gulf about 280 kilometers northwest of the metropolis of Adelaide . The area includes three hamlets and towns: Port Augusta , Miranda and Stirling North. The council's administrative headquarters are in the city of Port Augusta in the north of the LGA.

The City Council of Port Augusta has ten members, the nine councilors and the chairman and mayor of the council are elected by the residents of the LGA. Port Augusta is not divided into districts.
