Portal Tomb by Cleenrah

The Portal Tomb of Cleenrah (also called Cleenrah Cromlech or Cleenrah Dolmen - spelling also Cleenrath) is located about 200 m north of Lough Leebean and 1.0 km west of Lough Gowna, northwest of Granard , about 1.2 km from Portal Tomb of Aughnacliff in the Townland Cleenrah ( Irish Claonráth , German  "the sloping fort" ) in County Longford in Ireland . Portal Tombs are used in the British Isles between 4000 and 2500 BC. Megalithic complexes erected in the Neolithic age are called, in which two equally high, upright stones with a door stone in between, form the front of a chamber, which is covered with a partly huge capstone.

The Cleenrah Tomb portal is a well-preserved west-east oriented megalithic complex . It consists of two portal stones and two side stones, the end stone and the cap stone. The northern portal stone is about 1.7 m high, 1.1 m wide and 0.65 m thick. The southern one is about 1.35 m high, 0.95 m wide and 0.7 m thick. The gap between the portal stones is 0.5 m wide. The two side stones are within the line of the portal stones and are inclined outwards. The north stone is about 1.9 m high, 2.15 m long and 0.75 m thick. The south stone is also about 1.9 m high, 2.2 m long and 0.7 m thick. The end stone in the east is about 1.5 m high, 1.0 m wide and 0.3 m thick. Since he does not close the chamber, the gap is filled with a smaller stone 0.55 m × 0.4 m × 0.2 m. The capstone, which is inclined due to the different heights of the portal stones and rests on both portal stones and the end stone, is around 2.7 m long, 2.5 m wide and 1.25 m thick. The total length of the portal tomb is 2.75 m, but the interior between the portal stones and the end stone is only 1.6 m long.
