Valentin Merk (born February 14, 1853 ; † 1937 ) was a German art teacher and professor at the Karlsruhe School of Applied Arts .

biography

At the Kunstgewerbeschule Karlsruhe, founded in 1878, Merk taught in the architecture class, the sculpture class, the ciselier class and the classes for decorative painting, glass painting and ceramics. The training of drawing teachers and artisans as well as the promotion of the arts and crafts in Baden were among the tasks of the art educator Valentin Merk.

For his services he received the Zähringer Lion Order (knight 1st class with oak leaves) and the jubilee medal.

In 1920, the Karlsruhe School of Applied Arts became what is now the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe .
