Porter is a German alternative rock band from Dortmund .

history

After the Witten dark rock band Lucifer Sam , named after the Pink Floyd song Lucifer Sam , broke up, the band was formed in 2000 by Lars Daum ( guitar ), Frank Stewen (guitar) and Markus G. singer ( drums , lyrics ), initially founded with changing singers and bassists. In August 2001 the singer, choirmaster and multi-instrumentalist Christian Schwarz joined the band. In the same year Volker Fabiunke ( bass ), formerly Body Lost Its Size, completed the line-up.

In order to be able to dedicate themselves entirely to the do-it-yourself idea, the English-speaking band founded the self-publisher Armed Angels Recordings in 2013 . All songs are published under the Creative Commons Music Sharing License . After several in-house productions, including the EPs "Porter", "Single Sided Truth" and "Black Neural Symphony" as well as the mini album "Damocles", which was divided into an acoustic and a loud half, the band successfully started crowdfunding in 2012 - Call for funding for the album Wolkenstein via startnext, which was released in 2013. The title of the album is inspired by the life of the medieval South Tyrolean knight Oswald von Wolkenstein .

In spring 2017, the band carried out another successful crowdfunding , with the proceeds of which the band announced the production of the new album called "Genosha".

style

Musically, the band mixes the different influences of the individual band members - from metal and punk , to folk and singer songwriters, to hardcore punk and rock - to create their own blend, which is stylistically in the energetic, guitar-emphasized alternative rock of the 90s, through progressive elements the now time brings. The self-declared goal of mainly writing short songs with a comprehensible structure has been softened by the band with increasing influences from prog and folk lately. Lyrically, the Porter songs are often characterized by vehement statements against any totalitarian ideas, with their partly hymn-like refrains become a beacon for democracy and freedom and often raise the question of which society we want to live in.
