Inclusion - together different is a German television film by Marc-Andreas Bochert from 2011. It deals with the topic of inclusion .

action

Steffi is fifteen, sits in a wheelchair and, according to her parents' wishes, should switch to an inclusion school. In their opinion, she would have better chances there. The girl resists it, but it is of no use to her. Together with the somewhat mentally retarded Paul, she has to go to this school and a new class. There Steffi shows himself unruly and goes on a confrontational course. Paul is very different and much more socially minded, which is also due to the fact that his single mother maintains a very loving relationship with her son. He is happy that his new classmates, especially Marie, approach the two newcomers and try to take care of them. They can also find support from Albert Schwarz, their class teacher, who is also new to the inclusion situation in school and who has no experience of working with disabled people. Nevertheless, he approaches the challenge positively, which his wife likes less and she fears that they will have even less time for each other in the future. She is also biased and personally burdened about disability, having had a child aborted for such reasons. She suspects and fears that her husband, with his zeal, could present it as a possible wrong decision today.

Class teacher Schwarz is gradually reaching his limits. Steffi's provocations are hard to bear, and he has no further support from the school management. A requested helper has still not arrived. Only Paul is a small ray of hope, because his childlike naivete is good for the class atmosphere. However, Steffi also manages to provoke him with the result that he attacks her physically. Black has to intervene and appease both. Although Paul then apologizes to Steffi, she now "plays" the offender and uses the attack for her own purposes. Steffie's father promptly appears at school and complains about Paul.

Meanwhile, Steffi demands more and more personal attention from her class teacher. Since he sees the first progress in contact with her, he lets himself into it. He succeeds in getting her to cooperate and also to do her therapeutic exercises regularly. She gradually opens up to her classmates too. Black believes he has reached the goal of his desires. The day of a school meeting with a cultural performance of his class will be a great success. Steffi shows everyone that she can stand alone and without help. Only Paul is briefly overwhelmed and lashes out and injures a classmate and a teacher. Ultimately, however, everyone understands Paul's reaction and it proves:

"Integration means integrating disabled people into existing society. Inclusion aims to change society in such a way that one no longer distinguishes between being disabled and not being disabled."

background

The film Inclusion - Together Different had its premiere on December 2, 2011 on BR-alpha .

The roles of Steffi and Paul were taken over by normal actors who had no disabilities, but who have familiarized themselves with the subject accordingly. The broadcaster had seriously considered working with disabled actors, but this failed due to time and cost reasons.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said: "The film is precisely written, reflects the different perspectives, attitudes, dispositions, it is clearly staged and photographed (by Dresen cameraman Andreas Höfer), excellently cast down to the smallest roles and played convincingly, worn by Florian Stetter & two wonderful young actors. "

The Lexicon of International Films wrote:

“In partly documentary-looking images, the silent (television) drama tells of the everyday difficulties, resentments and conflicts that call the success of the project into question. A committed, even if dramaturgically sometimes somewhat theses-like contribution to the coexistence of disabled and non-disabled people. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm said with the "thumbs up": "That concerns us all!"
